It gets you going when there is humour in the movie. As in the previous film, BEETHOVEN'S 2ND is thinly plotted, essentially an excuse to put these dogs on-screen. He reluctantly agrees, but doesn't exactly forge a friendship with the growing St. Bernard. I can see why it's a PG as my son was a bit unsure at the start when he saw the men being mean to the dogs but I was able to reassure him that it all works out in the end and they get what they deserve. My son particularly liked the ending when all the dogs are snuggled up safe. "Beethoven" is like one of those movies Disney used to make, in which Dean Jones or Fred MacMurray was the long-suffering head of a family made up primarily of illdisciplined children and animals. The dad, George, is a bit annoying at times but likeable and he comes through for the kids and the dog at the end. This is a often very funny comedy that's perfect for the whole family. The honesty of the human kids; the exquisite changes portrayed by their dad, Charles Grodin; the down-to-earth Bonnie Hunt (until her disappointing emergency phone call); and-- You will find yourself thinking, "Here's the puckish Stanley Tucci--" "Oliver Platt--master of deadpan." The film opens with one of the forlorn animals, a little St. Bernard puppy, escaping from the clutches of the vile veterinarian and slipping unnoticed into a serene suburban household, where George Newton (Grodin) and his wife (Bonnie Hunt) live with their lovable son and daughter. A roller coaster ride that doesn't knock your rug off or mess up your do, with fine irrelevant complexities to keep you from falling asleep too early, i.e. An overall great cast and storyline!!! I would have given it a perfect 10, but it does have one major flaw: the casting of usually good-natured Dean Jones as such an unscrupulous character. Beethoven is STILL such a wonderful movie to watch. If you love funny animal films, you will laugh till you cry at the antics of Beethoven and his human companions. He is a man on the edge of madness, obsessed with women, even more obsessed with Karl (Marco Hofschneider), the young nephew he … My son proclaimed "no one should ever be mean to dogs, you should always love them and treat them nice" so if that's the lesson he got for it then I'm happy. Movie Reviews . 7 is the “most goose-bump inducing piece that was ever written.” Platt and Tucci are funny as Jones' henchmen, but their effeminacy doesn't seem fitting—would have worked better if maybe they paid a little more homage to Jasper and Horace Badun from ONE HUNRED AND ONE DALMATIONS. Bonnie Hunt couples great with Grodin, but is perhaps slightly underused. Beethoven was made in 1992, i thought that this movie was fantastic to watch. A full review on a decent family film from 1992 on a big dog with a big heart ( and a lot of slobber). Conflict involves the gentle-giant dog winning the heart of the family's strict and materialistic father (played terrifically by Grodin), topped with staying a step ahead of the evil vet (played by a clean-cut Dean Jones) who is trying to track down his escaped canine. When the family of George Newton (Charles Grodin) decides to adopt a cute St. Bernard puppy, the patriarch soon feels displaced by the dog. It is not perfect, but it is one of the better family films out there. It also reinforces the idea that you can't help but love dogs, even though they're hard work, as Beethoven works his way into George's heart. “Serious minded” like Beethoven himself, and his music — famous for its drama, dynamic range, complexity, epic themes and romance.
