Songs For Presidents
Songs For Presidents was an artist-run collective exhibition space dedicated to preserving horizontal creative community in Ridgewood and Bushwick. We were a basement for contemporary art, an open-ended platform, and an evolving organism. Founded in 2014 by Shanna Maurizi, Chloe Bass, Charles Goldman, Rico Gatson and Julian Pozzi, with the later addition of Tara Plath, James Sheehan, and Lizzie Scott, SFP membership was anonymous at the time. Why the name you ask? Amongst the ephemera left by former residents of the space, Famous Accountants and Genesis Breyer P Orridge, a 75rpm record with that title was found.
